A beautiful, vibrant island country, Japan is located off the eastern coast of the Asian continent. Tokyo is Japan’s busy capital and also the largest city of Japan. Japan is known for its rich cultural heritage and traditional arts, including tea ceremonies, calligraphy, flower arranging, etc all over the world. Japan is also one of the world’s most exciting countries renowned for standardized education. Even the literacy rate in Japan is around 99 %.

Numerous universities and junior colleges in Japan are well equipped with the best research laboratories, computers, and libraries, allowing students to perform their studies in an excellent environment. As Japanese is the national language of Japan, in most universities, students are taught in Japanese. Although some programs may be offered in English, the majority require an applicant to have proficiency in Japanese.

Education in Japan

Japan has one of the most highly educated and skilled inhabitants in the world. In Japan, higher education begins upon the completion of 12 years of education. It consists of elementary education (6 years) and secondary education (lower secondary school: 3 years and upper secondary school: 3 years) followed by four years at university for those in the academic stream. There are five types of higher education institutions where international students can be admitted, which are:

  • Colleges of technology
  • Professional training colleges
  • Junior colleges
  • Universities (undergraduate)
  • Graduate schools.

Japanese universities offer undergraduate programs (4-year), graduate programs (2-years), and doctoral programs (3-4 years). Although most programs are taught in Japanese, nowadays universities often offer some programs in English as well. But at the undergraduate level they normally only offer a few programs centering on International Studies or Social Science.

Students can do a part time job in Japan. They can do up to 28 hrs. in a week. In major cities like: Tokyo, they can earn 1 hr. = above 1000 yen.

SSW means a Specified Skilled Worker. There are many jobs available in SSW Visa. Like, Agriculture, Nursing Care, Restaurant or Hotel, etc. 1. Required Tests: (1) Skill test (2) Japanese proficiency tests * Both 1 and 2 are necessary to be qualified.
